The baseball season is very long and the teams play tons of games every season. Lots of sports bettors love betting on MLB since there are always lots of baseball games to bet on everyday during the season. If you bet on the NFL you only get to bet 2-3 days a week whereas if you bet on MLB you’ll most likely have action every single day. Just like in most sports, you want to make sure that you want to try and find value in underdogs rather than betting on favourites all the time.

How to Read Moneyline Odds

Betting on baseball is simple and reading the odds is easy once you know what you’re doing. We’re going to take a look at an example of a moneyline bet in MLB to show you how to read the odds.

  • Toronto Blue Jays -110 vs. Baltimore Orioles +105

The favoured team is always the team with the negative odds while the underdog will have positive odds. In our example you’d need to bet $110 to win $100 or you could bet $100 on the Orioles to win $105. To find out how much you can make you simply look at the odds. When the odds are negative the number equates to how much you’d need to bet in order to win $100 while if the odds are positive the number equates to how much you’ll make on a $100 bet.

Types of MLB Bets

  • Moneyline Bet – Bet on the team you think will win the baseball game.
  • Runline Bet – Bet on a team to win by -1.5 runs or bet on a team to not lose by +1.5 runs in a game.
  • Over/Under Bet – You can bet on game totals and team totals. A game total is when you bet on the over or under on both teams scoring more runs than the number set by your bookie. If the over/under is 9.5 runs the teams need to combine to score 10+ runs for the over to win.
  • Parlays – A parlay is when you combine multiple straight bets on the same ticket to make the payout odds increased, but the chances of winning are lower because every outcome needs to win.
  • Prop Bets – Most sportsbooks have lots of prop bets available on all MLB games during the season. You can bet on lots of prop bets such as whether or not there will be a run scored in the 1st inning and many others. The juice is a bit higher on prop bets, but the lines may not always be that sharp on certain props.
  • Futures Bets – You can bet on futures bets before the season starts and during the season. Futures bets include picking the team you think will win the World Series or a certain division during the regular season. Your money will be tied up if you bet on futures bets, but that might be better for some of you guys that love betting on too many games.
